Distillery

The Chamarel distillery boasts a rich history deeply rooted in Mauritius’ rum-making tradition. It is one of the newest on the island: its story began in 1996 when the Couacaud family purchased the Domaine de l’Exil in Chamarel, spanning 220 hectares dedicated to sugarcane cultivation in Mauritius’ fertile south west. In 2008, the family decided to construct the distillery from scratch with a singular focus: crafting pure sugarcane juice rum exclusively sourced from their estate’s plantations. Over time, the next generation of the Couacaud family has joined the team, with the two eldest brothers now actively involved in the distillery’s operations.

Poised, harmonious, with flavours of caramelised red apple, blossom honey, and dried fruits. Refreshing dark chocolate note on the finish.
